The RESPECT secondary programme aims to contribute to the prevention of gender based violence and abuse by exposing and challenging the root causes of gender based abuse.  The programme is based on the principle that relationship education can create an environment where these issues can be discussed, where accurate information can be passed on, and where young people can explore respectful relationships.

Preventing violence against women begins with changing the attitudes and values we learn as we grow up.  Young people are faced with a huge range of confusing messages about relationships, gender roles and expectations and also about violence.

The RESPECT secondary programme was developed to provide teachers and youth workers with a comprehensive resource for exploring these messages, and to assist in the promotion of respect and equality.
