The RESPECT primary programme aims to contribute to the prevention of gender based violence and abuse by exposing and challenging the root causes of gender based abuse; and also through discussion, empowering young people with useful knowledge, skills and understanding of positive non-violent relationships based on equality and respect.
Preventing violence against women begins with changing the attitudes and values we learn as we grow up. Children and young people are faced with a huge range of confusing messages about relationships, gender roles and expectations and also about violence.
The RESPECT primary programme was developed to provide teachers and youth workers with a comprehensive resource for exploring these messages, and to assist in the promotion of respect and equality.
